Compass Enterprise does not automatically load when opening ArcGIS or MapInfo Professional

Occurrence

After installing Compass Enterprise, or another user logs onto the computer loaded with Compass Enterprise,
the software fails to automatically start when loading ArcGIS or MapInfo Professional.

How do I enable Compass Enterprise to open automatically?

Solution

MapInfo Professional User

To start Compass Enterprise automatically, open MapInfo and navigate to Tools>Run MapBasic Program
Using the dropdown menu located adjacent to the ‘Look in:’ window, navigate to the folder where the
Compass Enterprise application has been installed.

By default Compass Enterprise will install to C:\Program Files\Encom\Compass Enterprise.
Select the MapBasic file (denoted by the .MBX extension) called ‘CELauncher.MBX’ and click ‘Open’.

This initial need to run Compass Enterprise  through the Tools menu for each new user is required as
MapInfo creates all the registry entries for the MapInfo Tools under each user name rather than
in the machine registry entries.

As the Compass Enterprise registry entry is automatically added to the Machine Registry settings,
it is not picked up when a new user logs on.

ArcGIS User

To start Compass Enterprise automatically, ensure ArcGIS is not open. Using Windows Explorer,
navigate to where the Compass Enterprise application has been installed. By default Compass Enterprise
will install to C:\Program Files\Encom\Compass Enterprise. Select the file CompassExtensionInstall.exe
and run. Once completed restart ArcGIS and the Compass Enterprise extension will now be loaded.

Sometimes Compass Enterprise is loaded, but you are only able to see the Tools.
To enable the Compass dropdown menu to be visible, go to Tools>Extensions
and select the Compass Integration Extension check box.
