In 64-bit Mapinfo Pro, I receive an error when trying to open TAB files that linked to an Access or Excel file.
Solution
This is due to Microsoft not supporting side-by-side installation of 32bit and 64bit versions.
Firstly please try downloading the file -
Then extract the files, and simply double click to run the AccessDatabaseEngineUtil.exe. Click OK on the prompt to apply.
If the issues persists, please do the following -
1. Manually uninstall all versions of the Microsoft Office Access Database Engine 2010 from the control panel.
2. Download the Office drivers from https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=13255
3. Run and install the AccessDatabaseEngine.exe (which is the 32-bit version).
4. Then run the AccessDatabaseEngineUtil.exe from the above download link.
This is the same tool that is applied during an installation of Discover 64-bit in an attempt to resolve the Mapinfo bug as described below.
In this does not resolve the issue, a more permenant solution is to switch from Office 32-bit to a 64-bit version. There is a step by step for this here.
